The Issues Of Race And Privilege - 1138 Words

There are any issues that the nation, the world, is facing today. Is it okay to travel to Africa? Is the water safe to drink? Many questions. Something that has been a question, a problem, an issue, for many years has recently become the main focus of topic; race and privilege. Those are topics that is discussed by many and somewhat dreaded by others. How can all people work collectively to address issues of race and privilege? That is a question that I will address and hopefully offer a solution to the issues in the form of a moral claim. Political philosophers or philosophies to support the claim will be incorporated. Criticisms of the claim will be anticipated and a response will be given. A Jesuit value will be presented and how the value informs and supports my claim will be discussed. Last week I attended the American Psychological Association Convention in Toronto, Canada. During a session, a White male talked that how is beginning to see and understand privilege, pa rticularly white privilege. The discussion continued with other comments about privilege and all from those who were the recipients of white privilege. According to the dictionary, privilege is a right or immunity granted as a peculiar benefit, advantage, or favor (marriam-webster, n.d.). Those that are privileged fall under different categories.
